Home locksmith services are regulated in France: you are entitled to clear price information before an intervention and to a detailed quote before any work begins.
What French law guarantees
Home repair services, including locksmithing, are governed by the French ministerial order of 24 January 2017 on consumer price information. Hourly rates, call-out fees, quote conditions and any surcharges must be communicated before the intervention. A detailed quote must be prepared and accepted before work starts.
A phone call or form submission is only a request to be contacted. It is never acceptance of paid work, and you remain free to decline the quote presented to you.

Prices explained from the first call
Pricing conditions — labour, travel and any applicable surcharges — are explained by phone at first contact, then set out in the written quote presented before any work. Select the area where the door is located.
How the final price is calculated
The cost of an intervention consists of labour, any replaced parts, travel costs and, where applicable, surcharges linked to the time of the intervention. Each item appears separately on the quote and then on the invoice.
Two apparently similar situations may result in different amounts: a slammed door with a basic cylinder and a locked high-security multipoint door require neither the same amount of work nor the same parts. The quote prepared after examination and before work begins is the basis of your agreement.
Frequently asked questions about prices
Is the quote free?
The conditions of the quote — free or chargeable depending on the circumstances — are stated at first contact, before any travel. Nothing can be billed unless you have been informed beforehand.
Can the price announced on the phone change?
The phone estimate is based on your description. The final amount is stated in the written quote prepared on site after the door and lock have been examined. You accept that detailed document before any work begins.
What affects the price of a locksmith intervention?
The main factors are the nature of the problem, the security level of the existing hardware, any parts that need replacing and the time of the intervention if surcharges apply. Every item is detailed in the quote.
Can I refuse the quote after the locksmith has travelled?
Yes. A quote is binding only after it has been accepted and signed. Any travel or quote fees must have been announced before the locksmith sets out.
